Exploring Watches, Emerging Trends, and Collecting Insights

Bagabon: What first sparked your interest in watches, and how did your journey in the industry begin?

Camille Guille: My journey into the world of watches happened quite unexpectedly. While working in the advertising department at Vanity Fair France, I had a basic understanding of watches. However, when I moved to Geneva, my first interview was with GMT Magazine. They offered me a role immediately, and that marked the start of my career in horology. Attending watch fairs and immersing myself in the culture of timepieces deepened my fascination and appreciation for this incredible industry.

Bagabon: Can you tell us about your first watch? How did it shape your career in the watch world?

Camille Guille: The first watch I purchased after entering the watch industry was the Furlan Marri Mr. Grey, even before it won the GPHG Challenge prize. It’s a quartz-powered piece, which was an unconventional choice for me at the time. That watch became the gateway to my journey as a collector. Since then, I’ve developed a greater appreciation for craftsmanship, and it remains a piece that holds sentimental value for me.

Bagabon: Out of all the watches you’ve encountered, which one stands out as the most memorable, and why?

Camille Guille: Without a doubt, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold, designed in collaboration with Carolina Bucci, is a standout for me. The frosting technique used on the gold gives it an incredible ability to play with light, making it utterly mesmerizing. It’s stylish, unique, and embodies the perfect balance between artistry and horology. This watch deepened my admiration for the Royal Oak and is an unforgettable piece in my experience.

Bagabon: What trends do you think will shape the watch industry in the coming years, and what advice would you offer new collectors?

Camille Guille: I believe the trend of appreciating smaller-sized vintage watches will continue to grow. There’s a timeless elegance to these pieces that resonates with collectors as they rediscover their charm.

For new collectors, my advice is to consider your budget, personality, and the purpose of your purchase. Are you buying a piece to pass down to your children, or is it something you might sell in a few years? If you think you won’t still love it in 1–2 years, then look into the secondary market prices—unless, of course, you’re Mark Zuckerberg, in which case the advice might differ! Ultimately, choose something that speaks to you and will continue to bring you joy over time.

Bagabon: What do you enjoy most about sharing your passion for watches on Instagram?

Camille Guille: I created my Instagram account, @perpetual.girl, to showcase the beautiful watches I’m fortunate to see and wear during press releases. One of the most rewarding aspects is connecting with followers who ask for my opinion on watches they’re considering. Recently, I helped a woman working in finance in NYC choose between two pieces by sharing photos and videos of the watches I had worn. Our conversation led her to discover a third option she hadn’t considered, which she ultimately purchased. Moments like these, where I can share my insights and help others, are why I love being part of the Watchfam community. I’ve made great friends through this shared passion, and it’s something I truly cherish.
